The "Caribbean Neon" Carnival in Playa del Carmen is set to be a vibrant and energetic event, expected to be one of the most memorable of the year. The event is expected to draw over 30,000 attendees to Plaza 28 de Julio, and will also feature a parade of decorated cars throughout the city and in Puerto Aventuras. The real highlight, however, is the lineup of international music artists set to perform at the 2025 edition of the carnival.
Estefanía Mercado, the mayor of Playa del Carmen, has announced the formation of the Playa del Carmen 2025 Carnival Committee, tasked with organizing and promoting the event. "This carnival will serve as a platform to showcase our new city brand and the variety of tourist attractions in Playa del Carmen at the 2025 International Tourism Fair in Madrid, Spain," Mercado said.
The musical lineup for the carnival is set to kick off on March 1 with a performance by Rawayana, a Venezuelan band known for their unique musical style. On March 2, Colombian music group Bomba Stereo, known for their fusion of electronic music, rock, reggae, alternative reggaeton, and rap with Caribbean influences, will take the stage. To round off the lineup, Argentine rhythm and urban music artist Nicki Nicole will perform.
The Carnival will officially open on February 26 with the crowning of the carnival royalty. The first official parade will take place on February 27, with hotels and tourism establishments joining in the festivities. In total, there will be five parades bringing life and color to the streets of Playa del Carmen, turning the city into a hub of celebration and tradition. The Carnival will conclude on March 4 in Puerto Aventuras with the traditional reading of the testament and the burning of "Juan Carnaval", as announced by Ernesto Martinez, the director of the Municipal Institute of Culture and the Arts, and Estefanía Hernández, the Secretary of Tourism.
