In a lively night filled with music and color, thousands gathered at Plaza 28 de Julio for the Playa del Carmen Carnival 2025's crowning of its kings and queens. The event featured categories for sovereign, youth, and children.
Following energetic performances by the candidates, who impressed with their rhythm, talent, and enthusiasm, winners were chosen across the different categories. Metzli Monterroza and Joel González took home the title in the main category, while Juan Pablo Hernández and Lía Hernández triumphed in the youth category. In the children's category, Danitza Vidales and Gabriel Sánchez were recognized.
The newly elected kings and queens will be officially crowned on Wednesday, February 26, marking the start of the Carnival festivities in Playa del Carmen.
The jury comprised well-known figures from the arts, including Caitlan Maggs, Nicole Lamontagne, and Miguel Rodríguez, artists from Cirque du Soleil. They evaluated the candidates based on criteria such as choreography, creativity, body expression, originality, attitude, costume, popularity, rhythm, and charisma.
