“Exclusive: Chaos in Playa del Carmen Over Real Estate Construction”

Residents of Villas del Sol in Playa del Carmen have reported disruptions to their water supply due to the installation of a pipe by the real estate company, CADU. Despite residents' protests over the discomfort caused by fumes and a directive from Civil Protection to halt the works, the situation remains unresolved.

The construction work has resulted in a pile of rubble and vegetation. CADU's installation of a pipe on Cisnes Street, near the fifth park, has led to an increase in dust due to unpaved roads. Furthermore, the potable water supply has been compromised, exacerbating already deficient public services. The situation is worsened by a lack of communication about supply cuts.

The damage to the asphalt extends from Chit Street to Los Gansos Avenue. Residents are uncertain when CADU, the company responsible for the damage, will repair the road. They also hope to see an end to the smoke trails caused by CADU employees burning cut trees and other materials on the site.

Fernando Cadenas, a local resident, pointed out that pollution continues in the area where the new subdivision is being built. A large ditch, where the pipe installation begins, has become a dumping ground for workers' garbage. Cadenas attributed the ongoing issues to the lack of orderly development, which has resulted in pollution in the affected area and its surroundings.

"With the installation of the pipe, the first issue we faced was mobility," Cadenas said. "There were no proper signs, and motorcyclists couldn't transit, so it hindered mobility in this area because it was fenced off. This led to drivers arguing with CADU staff."

Despite authorities placing closure seals, CADU ignored them and continued their work, including burning the mound of rubble. This defiance has caused further harm to local residents, prompting authorities to intervene again and force the company to extinguish the fire. However, it appears that the disruptions caused by CADU's construction work are far from over, leaving the residents of Villas del Sol to continue dealing with the fallout.
