Repair Woes in Playa del Carmen: Slow Road Rehabilitation

The town of Playa del Carmen is facing a significant challenge in repairing its streets and avenues. The roads have been severely damaged by potholes and sinkholes, a problem that has been attributed to neglect by the previous administration. The current mayor of Solidaridad has emphasized the importance of their ongoing repair programs, yet progress has been slow and the quality of repairs is not always optimal.

The pothole repair program, announced by the current mayor, is operating at full capacity. However, the mayor has expressed frustration over a three-year delay in necessary road repairs. This delay is seen as a political move, aimed at distracting the population of Solidaridad from the projects carried out by the previous administration.

Despite these challenges, it's important to note that the most severe damage to the streets and avenues was caused by several weeks of heavy rain. The weather conditions prevented the repair work from being carried out by the Municipal Public Services Secretariat. Once the weather improved, the extent of the damage was assessed. It was found to be widespread, affecting almost the entire city of Playa del Carmen and the town hall of Puerto Aventuras.
