The government of Solidaridad has begun reclaiming illegally occupied land in various subdivisions across the municipality. The aim is to convert these areas into recreational spaces for the community, according to municipal trustee José Agustín Aguilar Méndez. The initiative started with inspections in the Villamar 1 and 2 subdivisions, where 10 plots have been unlawfully extended into communal areas by private homeowners.

Aguilar Méndez explained, "We're responding to citizen complaints and requests to recover these areas for community benefit projects. We're seeking input from local residents to determine what kind of infrastructure can be developed on these plots." He went on to detail that the reclamation process will be gradual, initially seeking dialogue with the occupants through formal notifications. If the occupants do not agree to leave voluntarily, the municipality will proceed with legal action, as it holds documentation proving ownership of these plots.

"Our aim is to resolve these issues peacefully, but we're prepared to take necessary legal steps to ensure these spaces are returned to the community," Aguilar Méndez stated. While the current focus is on Villamar 1 and 2, inspections will be conducted in other subdivisions across Solidaridad to identify and reclaim similarly occupied plots.

The initiative was prompted, in part, by a company illegally occupying a green space in front of the Villamar 1 dome to store hotel items. The company had set up a makeshift shack for its workers to stay overnight and guard the merchandise. After receiving a formal notice from the municipality, the occupants have started to vacate the area voluntarily, and it is expected to be completely cleared soon.

The Solidaridad government reaffirmed its commitment to protecting and reclaiming public spaces, with plans to use these areas for recreational, sporting, and cultural activities that strengthen community bonds.
