Over the weekend, the Plaza 28 de Julio amphitheater was filled with music and enthusiasm as the Traditional Orchestra of Playa del Carmen made its successful debut. The event marked the International Day of the Education City, a celebration that has united governments from 28 countries for the past 18 years.

The event not only showcased music but also highlighted Playa del Carmen's commitment to this global initiative. During the ceremony, councilor Saúl Barbosa Heredia, representing municipal president Estefanía Mercado, read the Education City Charter. In his address, he underscored the importance of education and culture in the community, highlighting that Playa del Carmen is part of a network of 500 governments that celebrate this day with various educational and cultural activities. This international alliance reinforces the city's position as a leader in education and human development.

Deyanira Martínez Estrada, Secretary of Social Justice and Citizen Participation, also praised the work that the Municipal President has been doing. She stated that her vision of an education city is transforming Solidaridad, making it a model for social and educational commitment.

The event, held at the vibrant Plaza 28 de Julio, included performances not only from the Traditional Orchestra of Playa del Carmen and the Symphony Orchestra but also the City Children's Choir. High school students also displayed their academic, artistic, and handmade work, from the Community Development Centers of Ejido, Zazil Ha, Bellavista, Nicte Ha, and Puerto Aventuras. The display included results from computer, ballet, English, crafts, painting, and singing workshops, among others.

At the event's conclusion, attendees enjoyed regional snacks and treats from vendors on 8th and 10th streets, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere. Among the distinguished guests were Ernesto Martínez Cuéllar, director of the Municipal Institute of Culture and the Arts, and Manuel Jesús Lizama Guerrero, director of Education, Human Development, and Public Libraries, who reaffirmed their commitment to education and culture in Playa del Carmen.
