Tragic Loss: Beloved Comedian “Doña Evelia” Passes Away in Cancún

The beloved comedian, Benjamín González Javier, widely known as “Doña Evelia” on social media, has died in Cancún due to severe anemia. His friend and fellow comedian, Gregorio Hernández, also known as “Doña Catalina la Diva del Pueblo”, shared the news during a live Facebook broadcast.

According to Hernández, Benjamín was admitted to the General Hospital of Cancún “Jesus Kumate Rodriguez” due to his anemia, which he sadly did not recover from. “I want to inform you that Doña Evelia (Benjamín) has left us. Doña Evelia passed away today (yesterday 29th April). My heart goes out to his mother, his brothers, and family. All we can do now is pray for him, and ask God to guide him”, he said.

Benjamín's mother, Olivia Javier, had traveled from Tijuana to be with her son as the hospital did not permit non-family visitors. She was also handling the formalities to release him from the hospital and arrange the funeral. A day prior to his death, she used his Facebook page to appeal for financial support to cover his medical expenses as his health was rapidly declining.

Benjamin, originally from Oaxaca, will be laid to rest in his hometown, Jamiltepec. After the news of his death, a small funeral was held in Cancún, near Francisco I. Madero Avenue, also known as Route 4, where family and friends paid their respects with applause and songs.
