President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has pledged to leave few unresolved issues for his potential successor, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. One of the main tasks will be the completion of customs operations at the US border. He also committed to completing the Maya Train route by August. The route still needs to connect from Playa del Carmen to Calakmul, then to Escárcega, and finally to Palenque.
In addition, he emphasized that progress will be made on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Corridor, particularly the Trans-Isthmic Train. During a recent press conference, he announced that the distribution of at least 6 billion pesos to more than 11,000 health centers will begin on June 4. This initiative is part of the program "La Clínica es Nuestra".
The President will kick off the distribution by connecting with the 23 governors of states that have federalized their health services for individuals without social security, through the IMSS-Wellbeing system. He stated that the La Clínica es Nuestra program is key to achieving his goal of delivering a "completely modernized and updated public health system with no shortage of doctors" by September, before the end of his term.
His vision is for every health center, even in the most remote areas, to have doctors available seven days a week. He also wants all hospitals to have all specialists, all necessary tests, and even the most expensive medications available for free distribution.
In terms of healthcare, he mentioned that about 20 hospitals – some of level two – will soon be inaugurated. These hospitals are a part of the IMSS-Wellbeing, the regular IMSS, and the Issste. He also highlighted the progress made on various hydraulic infrastructure projects during his administration.
