Staff at the Princess Riviera Maya Hotel staged a protest at the hotel's entrance, demanding back payment of their share of tips, which they claim have been withheld since January. Chanting slogans like "We demand payment" and "Fulfill our payment", the disgruntled employees erected a makeshift tent using a plastic sheet to shield themselves from the pouring rain. Others huddled near the entrance, clad in raincoats.
The protest kicked off at 5 a.m. with the employees asserting their right to their proportionate share of the tips. They claim they should have received these funds eight months ago. The workers allege that they have been given the runaround with no resolution to their payment issue, leading to widespread dissatisfaction among the staff.
The protesters also raised concerns about mistreatment from department heads, with room cleaners bearing the brunt of the issue. As a result, they are calling for the dismissal of the supervisor and their assistant.
