A professional diver has gone missing after exploring a Dzombakal cenote in Yucatan. The diver, whose identity is currently being withheld, has been unaccounted for over the past 24 hours. Family members and rescue teams confirm that he entered the cenote on Friday morning and has not been heard from since. Local media and authorities have joined the search for the 51-year-old man.

Firefighters, volunteer divers, and a rescue school are all participating in the rescue efforts. It is believed that the diver is still inside the Dzombakal cenote. The search is centered in the city of Uman, a suburb of Merida. The site has been secured for the search, with oxygen tanks and professional equipment on hand to aid in the efforts. The search was temporarily suspended on Saturday, October 5, to replenish the oxygen tanks, a necessary safety measure for the rescue personnel. As of now, there is no sign of the missing diver.

This is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the Yucatan Peninsula. Despite their certifications, divers often take risks that can lead to dangerous situations. In 2019, Camero Donaldson, a foreign diver, went missing for 48 hours while diving in the northern area of Cozumel, at Las Rocas Beach. Donaldson was conducting a navigation and mapping study at the time of his disappearance. Reports from witnesses and authorities stated that he entered the "Las Rocas" resort with his mother, but only she resurfaced.
