The "tourist card" for visitors who rent vehicles in Quintana Roo is set to be standardized across all municipalities. This move will provide better regulation and assurance for tourists. Alma Reynoso Zambrano, the president of the Quintana Roo Vehicle Rental Association, announced that the plan is to implement these cards during the Easter period across the entire state.

Tourists will be able to obtain these cards through an app, where they will input their personal information and rental contract details. "It's a victory and a cause for celebration that we can offer this level of security to tourists who rent vehicles in Quintana Roo," said Zambrano.

The purpose of the card is to prevent tourists who may commit minor traffic offenses from being fined. Instead, they will receive a warning and retain their documents, along with two "courtesy passes". Zambrano highlighted that no other state in Mexico, or indeed any other country, has implemented such a system. This makes it a significant achievement for a tourist-centric state like Quintana Roo.

The initiative still needs to be approved by municipal councils to align with state law. So far, the only municipality to have implemented it is Benito Juárez. Read more here.
