On December 20, 2024, in Puerto Aventuras, Quintana Roo, municipal president of Solidaridad, Estefanía Mercado, inaugurated Gilberto Gómez Martínez as the new mayor of Puerto Aventuras for the 2024-2027 term. This followed his victory in the elections held on December 15.

During the Second Solemn Session of the Town Hall, held at the town's multipurpose dome, Mercado emphasized that this event signifies the continuation of a dedicated administration and a profound respect for democratic principles.

"Democracy is more than a system of government; it is the authentic expression of the people's will. Puerto Aventuras' community has reaffirmed their desired path for the future with their vote, proving that the people's voice is the guiding force of our localities. This mandate carries a responsibility to serve with integrity, transparency, and dedication," she stated.

Mercado also assured that Puerto Aventuras will not remain a mere figurehead mayorship. She proudly announced plans to inaugurate a new civic square within the first 100 days of the new administration, a symbol of the citizens' collective effort.

She also reported progress in enhancing public services and repairing streets, steps that are beginning to reshape the town's image and meet the needs of its residents. "These initiatives are just the start, but they also remind us of the real driving force behind this transformation: the people. Their active role embodies the essence of our democracy. We reiterate our commitment to govern by listening, dialoguing, and building together," the Municipal President commented.

She further reminded Gilberto Gómez and the members of the Mayor's office, who also took an oath, that the trust placed in them is not a blank check, but a call to action and commitment. Each service improvement, each rehabilitated street, and each reclaimed space will serve as evidence of promises turned into tangible actions.

The newly sworn-in mayor thanked the people of Puerto Aventuras for their vote of confidence on December 15, pledging to work for the benefit of the people. "I am confident that, with the support of all levels of government, Puerto Aventuras will continue its development. I fully believe that together with municipal president Estefanía Mercado, we will continue transforming this Mayor's office," he stated during the event, which included honors to the flag and the anthems of Quintana Roo and Mexico.
