The Secretariat of Environment of Solidaridad, led by Samanta Álvarez, has announced progress in its program to restore public beach access in the municipality. In Puerto Aventuras, three projects are underway in the Xpu-Ha area. The administration is currently negotiating with property owners to finalize these projects.

In Playa del Carmen, Álvarez confirmed that there are no issues with beach access. The area boasts 22 free public passages to the coast, all of which have been suitably adapted and certified for quality. Additionally, 12 beaches in the region have been awarded the Playa Platino and Blue Flag distinctions, signifying their adherence to environmental and service standards.

Addressing accessibility for disabled individuals, Álvarez noted that Punta Esmeralda has always been accessible. Efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with Public Works, to install a walkway to improve mobility in the area.

In preparation for the upcoming holiday season, the Secretariat of Environment has stepped up its beach cleaning operations. Municipal inspectors conduct daily patrols to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, which include a ban on plastics and guidelines for proper waste management by visitors.

As for the issue of seaweed, although it has been spotted on some state beaches, its presence in Solidaridad has not yet become a major concern. The peak accumulation of macroalgae is expected to occur in mid-April. However, the municipality has staff dedicated to seaweed collection all year round, and efforts will be ramped up as its presence on the coasts increases.

Álvarez assured that from 5:00 am, cleaning crews are hard at work to ensure that both tourists and residents can enjoy clean and safe beach spaces.
