Tourist’s Death Linked to Puerto Morelos Mayor’s Family

Several small boats and people at a tropical beach. Boats are moored in shallow blue water with a clear sky, involving activity from boat passengers and a person handling a boat rope on the beach.

The family of Puerto Morelos Mayor, Blanca Merari Tziu, has come under scrutiny following the death of a foreign tourist. The incident is believed to have been caused by negligence during a maritime tourist service. The boat, where the incident took place, is owned by Ezequiel Sanchez, the mayor's uncle.

According to those providing the tourist service, the tourist lost their life during a diving expedition arranged by the boat's crew. When the boat returned to shore, the tourist was found to be lifeless.

Eyewitnesses, however, have reported that the deceased tourist was left in the sun on the beach for three hours. This is despite the Forensic Medical Service being located less than 30 minutes away. Further adding to the controversy, it has been suggested that the boat lacked the necessary insurance to operate.

This lack of insurance not only heightens the negligence allegations but also raises questions about the safety measures provided to tourists by the mayor's family. Puerto Morelos residents have expressed their concerns, stating, "It's unacceptable for this case to be swept under the rug due to family connections with the mayor. This incident involves a foreign tourist and seriously tarnishes the reputation of our tourist destination."

As of now, municipal authorities have not released any official statements regarding the incident.
