Puerto Morelos Restaurants Thrive During National Holidays: A Culinary Delight

September is typically the slowest month of the year for restaurants. However, in Puerto Morelos, the National Holidays provide a much-needed boost. These festivities, taking place in the Town Hall area and the old town, are expected to bring a surge of activity over the weekend. "The restaurant sector becomes quite lively during this time, attracting local tourism," said Luis Sanchez, Vice President of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Spiced Food Industry (Canirac).

The long weekend around September 15th has become an important tradition for both local and national tourists. It's a family-friendly event, attracting groups of friends who travel to Quintana Roo to take advantage of the off-season's lower hotel and domestic flight prices, Sanchez explained.

During this period, the menu typically features a variety of local gastronomy, inspired by harvest fairs and kermesse. Popular dishes include pozole, tostadas de pata, pambazos, and ceviches. There's also a strong emphasis on responsible and sustainable fishing, particularly with red tilapia and farm tilapia, lobster, and prawn. Contrary to what one might expect, menu prices do not increase during this season. Instead, restaurants often offer promotions to attract tourists, Sanchez added.

American and Canadian residents, many of whom are retirees, also enjoy these festivities. Having become accustomed to the Mexican culture, they look forward to and relish these special dates.
