In a chilling incident of violence tied to drug trafficking, residents of Leona Vicario, a part of the municipality of Puerto Morelos, were shocked by the discovery of a dead body in a public area. The gruesome find was reported by alarmed locals who promptly alerted the authorities. The body, identified as a well-built man, was found naked and displayed clear signs of violence.
Next to the body, investigators discovered a white tarp carrying a threatening message: “THE TOWN HAS AN OWNER. THIS IS FOR ALL THOSE WHO SELL CRYSTAL. FOR ALL THE CONTRAS WE ARE HERE. SIGNED, THE TEAM OF TERROR.” This message, presumably left by the criminals involved in the murder, heightened tensions in the community, particularly due to its close proximity to an educational institution, the CECyT.
The initial response was a joint effort between the local police and the National Guard, who secured the crime scene. The lieutenant of the National Guard led a team of five officers who established a secure perimeter for first responders. Meanwhile, the judicial police, led by Officer Heriberto, began the process of collecting evidence.
According to the official ministerial agent, the body appeared to have been dumped at the scene, a conclusion drawn from the presence of bullet casings near the body. The authorities are still investigating to uncover the motives behind this brutal act that has left Leona Vicario and its surrounding areas in shock.
This incident highlights the ongoing issue of violence related to drug trafficking in the region, posing a significant challenge to the public authorities in Puerto Morelos.
