In Puerto Morelos, the Punta Corcho restaurant has been awarded the Bib Gourmand by the Michelin Guide, a globally recognized culinary reference. This accolade was given during the first selection made in Mexico this year.
In the 2024 edition of the Michelin Guide, three stars were given to several restaurants in Quintana Roo. In addition, four Bib Gourmand recognitions were awarded. This award, named after Bibendum (the Michelin Man), is given to establishments that offer quality cuisine at affordable prices. The guide also recommended 13 other establishments.
Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz, the municipal president of Puerto Morelos, was present at the award ceremony. She expressed her gratitude for the support from Governor Mara Lezama and the State Tourism Department. Their efforts have helped to raise the quality standards of the destination's cuisine, making it one of the best in the world. She also praised the chefs of Punta Corcho, Daniel Ovadía and Alejandro García, as well as businessman Héctor López Trucios. She emphasized that Punta Corcho offers not only excellent cuisine but also a warm, welcoming service from the restaurant team.
The Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, also present at the event, stated that Punta Corcho has helped to establish Puerto Morelos as a global gastronomic destination. This achievement complements the area's natural beauty.
To determine the quality of the cuisine, Michelin's expert inspectors used a methodology based on five criteria: the quality of the products used, the mastery of culinary techniques, the harmony of flavors, the personality of the chef expressed in the dish, and consistency over time and across the entire menu.
The award ceremony brought together the team working at Punta Corcho. They expressed that this recognition motivates them to continue striving for excellence.
