Controversial Condo Project Approved in Punta Sam’s Protected Area

Several construction workers near a large building under construction with exposed scaffolding, surrounded by a green fence and a crane towering above. One worker, wearing an orange vest and helmet, is gesturing actively with his arm raised. Another worker is walking away, and others are visible in the background. A tree and a parked car also feature in the image on an urban road.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat) has given the green light for a condominium project within a protected area in Punta Sam. The development will be built on a plot of land spanning 4,649 square meters.

The project plan includes an 11-story apartment building, which breaches existing regulations by featuring 37 apartments, significantly more than the permitted 17. According to the Environmental Impact Statement, the construction process is expected to last 30 months, with a 99-year lease for operation and maintenance.

Despite these violations, the project is already being marketed on real estate development platforms.
