The Secretariat of Environment and Natural Resources (SEMARNAT) has denied the regularization of Punta Venado beach club. The Federal Attorney's Office for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) previously imposed sanctions on the club for unauthorised construction.

Last year, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) was submitted for works in the vicinity of the Calica lands. These lands have also been subject to sanctions. Rosa María Joaquín Alcérreca, an individual associated with the project, sought regularization for an environmental impact project that began more than two decades ago without the necessary agreements in place.

SEMARNAT has not yet released its resolution detailing the reasons for denying the permit. As a result, there is a risk that the area may not be operable again. Alcérreca had hoped to regularize various works carried out over the past twenty years on a plot of approximately 203 hectares.

The plot is located around 15 kilometers south of Playa del Carmen. This area has attracted the attention of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador due to the exploitation of stone material by Calica for several years.

Alcérreca is not the first individual to seek regularization for their works. At least three others have made similar attempts since last year. However, in this area south of Calica, the federal government, through SEMARNAT, has consistently refrained from granting environmental impact permits for the construction of houses and hotels.
