Tragic Puppy Death sparks Outrage in Playa del Carmen!

A new case of animal abuse has been reported in Playa del Carmen, where a puppy was found dead due to severe neglect. The incident occurred in a residence in Villas del Sol. The puppy's owners had reportedly left for vacation without providing adequate food or water for their pets. This case was brought to light through social media and later confirmed by the Solidaridad government via the Animal Control Assistance and Zoonosis Center.

According to social media reports, two dogs were left abandoned in the residence. Jennifer Campos, head of the Animal Control Assistance and Zoonosis Center, stated, "We received information through social media that the family had apparently gone on vacation. We are conducting an investigation, but neither Public Security nor the Animal Control Center can enter a home without a warrant or the owner's consent."

Tragically, one of the puppies was found dead and decomposing, while the other was still alive but confined in a small space. Campos reported that they had interviewed an individual who arrived at the house after they had made several visits at different times. However, this person refused to surrender the surviving puppy, stating instead that they would put it up for adoption.

In response to this incident, the Animal Control Assistance and Zoonosis Center has filed a criminal complaint for a crime against fauna in the form of animal cruelty. Campos said, "We have approximately 11 ongoing investigations. We have provided all the information to the prosecutor's office, including autopsies, and collected all available evidence. We are determined that this act of animal abuse and irresponsible ownership should not go unpunished."
