Quintana Roo's culinary scene is gaining worldwide attention, with several local restaurants receiving Michelin stars and awards. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa highlighted that three restaurants have been awarded a Michelin Star, four have received the "Bib Gourmand" recognition, and 13 have been recommended by the Michelin Guide. This recognition underscores the quality of Quintana Roo's cuisine and the talent of the chefs, cooks, waitstaff, bartenders, and all staff involved in the region's dining experience.
The three Michelin Star recipients are Cocina de Autor Riviera Maya, Le Chique, and HA'. These establishments were selected based on the Michelin Guide's five criteria: product quality, cooking technique mastery, flavor harmony, the chef's personality reflected in the dishes, and consistency across the menu.
Meanwhile, Axiote, Cetli, Mestixa, and Punta Corcho received the "Bib Gourmand" recognition. This accolade is given to restaurants that offer exceptional cuisine at moderate prices. An additional 13 establishments were recommended by the Michelin Guide, including Arca, Autor, Bu’ul, Casa Banana, El Fogón, Hartwood, Kiosco Verde, La Casa De Las Mayoras, María Dolores, NÜ Tulum, Posada Margherita, Wild, and Woodend.
During an event at Xcaret, Governor Lezama emphasized the importance of promoting Quintana Roo's culinary scene. She expressed immense pride in receiving these recognitions from the esteemed Michelin Guide, noting that the government has worked diligently to include Quintana Roo in the guide. She also highlighted that Quintana Roo's cuisine is a testament to the culinary delights found in the region's 12 tourist destinations across its 11 municipalities.
The state's Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, echoed these sentiments, stating that this achievement is a result of the combined efforts of everyone involved, from the restaurants and chefs to the workers. This recognition places Quintana Roo among the world's elite culinary destinations.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including the mayor of Solidaridad, Estefanía Mercado; the honorary president of the DIF Quintana Roo System, Verónica Lezama Espinosa; and Daniela Mijares, a representative of Michelin's distinguished partner Quality. Members of the Quintana Roo Gastronomy Promotion Committee and other invited guests were also present.
