In Cozumel, Mexico, a unique initiative was launched to foster a greater understanding and appreciation for the uniformed service among the island's children. The initiative, titled the “Policeman for a Day” contest, selected 12 winning boys and girls to experience the daily tasks of police officers in both administrative and field areas.

The children's day began early with roll call for on-duty police officers. This took place in front of the Public Security and Municipal Transit Directorate building. Here, the young participants received their respective badges, officially accrediting them as "Policemen for a Day".

During the event, the importance of children's participation in such contests was highlighted. The children represent the future of Cozumel's families, and through their involvement, the contest aims to reinforce the path towards social peace. It also serves to honor the officers who dedicate long hours to securing the municipality, often putting their lives at risk for the safety of the community.

The contest provided a platform for the young participants to share their unique perspectives on their environment and security through their written stories.

The "Policemen for a Day" enjoyed a range of activities on the day. These included a tour of the corporation's facilities, meetings with the heads of Public Safety, Transit, and Tourism Police, and a specialized group in family and gender violence attention (GEAVIG). They also visited the C2, where city monitoring is done through video surveillance cameras, and the C5, where 911 assistance calls are received.

The children also visited the Tourist Attention and Protection Center (CAPTA) offices, enjoyed a ride aboard patrol cars, and ended the day with a special gathering prepared for their enjoyment.
