On International Day of the Girl, Quintana Roo's Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa led a commemorative event and discussion. The event took place at the Lak´in market dome in Villas Otoch Paraíso, where she distributed dolls that represented herself and President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. The dolls were given to young girls as a symbol of empowerment, equality, and personal development.
During her speech, Governor Espinosa shared her vision for a future where today's girls grow into empowered, happy women who are capable of tackling any challenge. She emphasized the importance of the New Agreement for the Well-being and Development of Quintana Roo, which aims to ensure a government that is both humanist and feminist, leaving no one behind.
The event encouraged the active participation of girls, who shared their thoughts on what it means to be a girl, their aspirations for peace, and their dreams for the future. Governor Espinosa stressed that achieving substantial equality is a key goal of her administration. She sees today's girls as the future women who will be strong, brave, and independent.
The Governor, along with the honorary president of the DIF Quintana Roo System, Verónica Lezama Espinosa, participated in a panel discussion. The event was attended by more than 500 students from schools in Benito Juárez, Lázaro Cárdenas, and Puerto Morelos.
Governor Espinosa ended the event by encouraging the girls to believe in their dreams. "Today we show them that they can be whatever they want: architects, lawyers, scientists or anything they dream of," she said.
