Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa of Quintana Roo, Mexico, has announced that the state will participate in the national "Boxing for Peace" initiative. The program, part of the broader "Peace Belt" strategy, uses sport as a tool to promote peace and social unity throughout the country.

Governor Lezama Espinosa met with Miguel Torruco Garza, the Director of Sport, Art and Welfare Promotion at the SEP, to formalize Quintana Roo's commitment to the initiative. "We continue to prioritize sport and good health for the people of Quintana Roo," said Governor Lezama Espinosa, the first female governor of the state.

The New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo recognizes sport as a key tool for peacebuilding. The agreement encourages the promotion of social sport among children and young people as part of a broader health promotion strategy.

Quintana Roo's participation in the "Boxing for Peace" initiative will kick off with a massive 30-minute boxing class on April 6. This event, which coincides with the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace, will take place simultaneously in all 32 states. The goal is to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest boxing class.

"We are very happy that all of Quintana Roo joins this national boxing class," said Torruco Garza. "I thank Governor Mara Lezama because they have just confirmed that her 11 municipalities will participate."

The announcement was made in the presence of Jacobo Arzate Hop, President of the Quintana Roo Sports Commission; Eric Arcila Arjona, Deputy of the XVIII Legislature of the State Congress; and Elda María Xix Euan, Secretary of Education of Quintana Roo. Also present were Gustavo Contreras, Coordinator of the National Boxing Class, and David Mondragón, private secretary of the Directorate of Sport, Art and Welfare Promotion of the SEP.
