Municipal authorities in Quintana Roo, including those from Isla Mujeres and Cozumel, are urging residents to help protect the blue crab (Cardisoma guanhumi). This species has experienced a significant population decrease in recent years.

Germán Yáñez Mendoza, the Deputy Director of Ecology in Cozumel, has highlighted the importance of safeguarding this species. He stressed the need to educate the public about the blue crab's lifecycle, particularly during its mating season and migration to the sea.

These efforts are crucial not only for maintaining the blue crab population, but also for preserving the balance of the mangrove ecosystems.

In Isla Mujeres, a blue crab protection and rescue initiative has been launched along the Sac Bajo road. The goal is to ensure the crabs' safe passage to their nesting sites.

Both locals and tourists are encouraged to participate in these conservation efforts. The aim is to raise awareness about the importance of preserving the blue crab population in Quintana Roo's municipalities.
