Pablo Martínez Flores, head of the Support Center for Migrant Indigenous People in Quintana Roo, has stressed the importance of cultural and book fairs in the state. He believes that while progress was made in 2024, there is still much work to be done.
Martínez noted that not only are fairs necessary, but also festivals, artistic exhibitions, music and dance events, and other cultural activities. He pointed out that these are lacking not only in the municipality of Benito Juárez but throughout the state of Quintana Roo.
The Support Center has been active across the state, organizing and participating in events in municipalities such as Lázaro Cárdenas, Cozumel, Isla Mujeres, Felipe Carrillo Puerto, and Puerto Morelos, as well as Tulum, Chetumal, José María Morelos, and Solidaridad.
Martínez emphasized the importance of activities that promote education, culture, arts, and cultural heritage, as these are the true wealth of the state.
Reflecting on the events of 2024, he highlighted the success of the First Winter Book Fair in Cancún, which saw a large turnout and featured numerous activities, book presentations, and talks. The Second International Book Fair of Cancún was another significant event, held at the planetarium and featuring participants from across the American continent, with the Mayan culture as hosts.
The Arte en tu Parque project was also revived in 2024. Originally known as Arte del Crucero, the project expanded to include Las Palapas and other venues in the city. The Support Center for Migrant Indigenous People in Quintana Roo, located on 36th Street between routes 4 and 5, also hosted events as part of the project.
Martínez also announced that the Arte en tu Parque activities will continue throughout January 2025, with events scheduled for the 6th, 11th, 13th, 18th, and 20th, starting at 4 pm.
Looking ahead to 2025, the second edition of the Winter Book Fair of Cancún will take place from January 28 to February 2 at the Urban Center. The event will feature book presentations, videos, films, and music, with more activities still being added.
