Quintana Roo authorities issued a weather update on Thursday morning, warning residents about the impending heavy rainfall from Tropical Depression Nineteen. The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that the weather system is currently situated in the western Caribbean Sea, roughly 400 kilometers northeast of Guanaja Island, Honduras, and 660 kilometers east-southeast of Puerto Costa Maya, Quintana Roo.
Tropical Depression Nineteen is currently producing sustained maximum winds of 55 km/h, with gusts up to 75 km/h, and is moving westward at a speed of 24 km/h. The system's circulation is increasing moisture influx towards the Yucatan Peninsula, which is expected to result in very heavy rainfall in Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo. Wind gusts between 40 and 60 km/h are also anticipated.
Additionally, waves between 1 and 2 meters high are expected along the coasts of Quintana Roo. Quintana Roo's Governor, Mara Lezama, has issued a statement advising residents about the upcoming severe weather and urging them to take necessary precautions.
Isolated rainfall is also forecasted for other municipalities including Lazaro Cardenas, José Maria Morelos, Isla Mujeres, Benito Juarez, Puerto Morelos, Solidaridad, Cozumel, and Tulum. Authorities have also warned about the potential for fog banks in some parts of the state, which could reduce visibility and pose a risk for road users and urban areas.
Governor Lezama has encouraged residents to stay informed through official channels and to avoid spreading or believing in misinformation. She reminded residents that hurricane season is still ongoing and emphasized the importance of adhering to the authorities' advice.
