Quintana Roo Prosecutor’s Office Receives Global Honor for Anti-Human Trafficking Efforts

The Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office, led by Raciel López Salazar, has been recognized for its exceptional efforts in combating human trafficking. The accolade was presented at the International Summit Against Human Trafficking in Washington by the "Kaleido" Organization and the "Unity Against Trafficking" Foundation.

The state's Attorney General, Juan Pablo Moreno, attended the event on behalf of the Prosecutor's Office. He shared a video message from López Salazar, who took the opportunity to highlight the accomplishments of his team. Over the past year, the Prosecutor's Office has rescued 290 victims of trafficking, 42 of whom were minors. They have also arrested 42 individuals connected to these crimes, resulting in 13 convictions with sentences of up to 20 years.

A significant achievement of the Prosecutor's Office was the dismantling of a human trafficking ring in Isla Mujeres. This ring, operated by Lebanese individuals, held 75 migrants captive, 70 of whom were from India and five from Nepal.

López Salazar praised Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa's commitment to the fight against human trafficking, labeling it a "global tragedy" that destroys lives and hopes. He also pledged the Prosecutor's Office's resolve to tackle both domestic and international criminal groups, with the aim of preventing the Mexican Caribbean from becoming a haven for illicit activities.

"We will not rest in our fight against these criminal groups who see the Mexican Caribbean as a hotspot for their illegal activities. It is essential for nations, societies, and governments to unite in eradicating this crime. We must protect our continent and stand against transnational organized crime," stated the Attorney General.

Rosi Orozco, president of "Kaleido" and the "Unity Against Trafficking" Foundation, commended the work of López Salazar, particularly noting the rescue of seven girls in the past three months. The summit also included panel discussions on topics such as post-traumatic stress in trafficking victims, municipal strategies to combat trafficking, and the role of the business sector in this fight.

The Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office has shown a steadfast commitment to protecting victims and prosecuting criminals, earning international recognition and support in the battle against human trafficking.
