The State Health Services (SESA) of Quintana Roo has reported 793 cases of dengue fever in the first quarter of 2024. This high number has prompted the department to issue a public health alert and provide recommendations to the public.
Quintana Roo currently ranks fourth in the nation in both the number of cases and incidence rate. From January to April 2024, the disease has resulted in two fatalities.
The cases of dengue fever are distributed across the municipalities as follows: Benito Juarez has the highest number with 566 cases; Othón P. Blanco reported 97 cases; Solidaridad has 58; Felipe Carrillo Puerto has 30; José María Morelos has 10; Isla Mujeres has 9; Cozumel has 7; Bacalar has 4; Tulum has 3; and Puerto Morelos has reported one case.
In comparison, the previous year saw a total of 5,163 dengue cases and 22 deaths in Quintana Roo.
