Residents of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo are demanding a strong response to an incident in which taxi drivers from the "Lázaro Cárdenas del Río" union attacked a group of tourists. The taxi drivers had mistaken the tourists for Uber drivers, and the incident took place within the Xcaret park, a popular tourist attraction.

The local community is outraged, arguing that these service providers are damaging the city's reputation. César Navarro, a local restaurant owner, insists that these violent acts need to be addressed firmly. He claims that taxi drivers have not been held accountable for their actions, and believes that their licenses should be revoked.

Navarro also mentioned that this issue has been ongoing for some time, with previous governors failing to take action. He urged the current governor to step in and address the situation.

Common complaints about the taxi service include poorly maintained vehicles, high fares, lack of accessibility, and the inappropriate behavior of some drivers. A video of the incident has sparked widespread anger, with many people demanding that the drivers face consequences for their actions.

Navarro also criticized the dual role of the city secretary, who also serves as the secretary of the taxi union. He argued that this individual is not fulfilling his responsibilities, despite receiving a substantial salary. Navarro emphasized that those in public office are expected to serve the community 24/7, and that the citizens are the ones who suffer when these responsibilities are neglected.

Navarro concluded by calling on citizens to demand that Luis Herrera Quiam, the city secretary and union secretary, choose between his two roles. He argued that serving two masters inevitably leads to neglect, and it is unfair for the citizens to be the ones who are let down.
