Quintana Roo's Eva Paola Ventura Rodriguez shone on the second day of the 2024 CONADE Nationals, securing the state's first medal in the canoeing discipline. The event is taking place at the “Virgilio Uribe” Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Track in Mexico City.
Ventura's achievement is a testament to the New Agreement for the Welfare and Development of Quintana Roo, an initiative spearheaded by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa. The agreement, implemented through the Quintana Roo Sports Commission (CODEQ), chaired by Jacobo Arzate Hop, prioritizes comprehensive support for the state's athletes.
Ventura Rodriguez clinched the Silver medal in the K1 500 meters category for 15-16 year olds, with a time of two minutes, 18 seconds and 56 hundredths. The Gold was awarded to Ana Paola Ureña from Tamaulipas, while Valentina Hurtado from Querétaro took home the Bronze. This win brings Quintana Roo's total medal count to 261, including 78 Golds, 75 Silvers, and 108 Bronzes.
Other Quintana Roo athletes also put up a strong performance. Yulecti Pérez and Héctor Gutiérrez both secured fourth place in the C1 500 meters category for 17-18 year olds. Briana Paola Cárdenas finished seventh in the K1 500 meters category for 13-14 year olds. Kevin Cárdenas, who teamed up with Julio César García, finished fifth in heat 2 and sixth in heat 2 of the K2 500 meters category for 15-16 year olds.
