As part of the commemoration of the Tlatelolco massacre on October 2, 1968, Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced that Quintana Roo is supporting the historic decree signed by President Claudia Sheinbaum. This decree is a public apology for the crime against humanity that occurred over five decades ago. In her address to the residents of Quintana Roo, Governor Espinosa stressed that the fight for freedom by the youth of that era will always be remembered.

She also acknowledged that, after 56 years, President Sheinbaum is the first Mexican leader to admit the involvement of the Mexican state in the tragic event. Sheinbaum, a self-proclaimed 'daughter of 68', is proud to lead the way in acknowledging the state's role in the massacre.

Governor Espinosa clarified that a public apology does not equate to forgetting. Rather, it serves as a historical reassertion of justice for the brave students who sacrificed their lives for their beliefs, convictions, and the exercise of their freedoms.

The Governor of Quintana Roo emphasized that Mexico is not a country in mourning, but a nation of hope and democracy. She concluded by saying that Mexico honors and remembers the victory against student repression in 1968, keeping it alive in the nation's collective memory.
