Teachers in Quintana Roo, members of the Central Council of Teachers' Struggle, continue their indefinite strike despite reaching preliminary agreements with state governor, Mara Lezama. The agreements aim to ensure the teachers' involvement in crafting a comprehensive reform of the ISSSTE law. However, the strike will persist until these agreements are finalized.

The national director of ISSSTE, Martí Batres, is scheduled to meet with a delegation of Quintana Roo teachers on Wednesday. They will present their demands and suggestions for a fair and equitable reform initiative. The strike, which has expanded to 28 states, will continue until federal lawmakers make formal commitments.

The meeting with the governor resulted in seven key agreements. These include official recognition of the Central Committee of Teachers' Struggle, inclusion of Quintana Roo teachers in state and federal dialogue tables, and assurance that there will be no penalties or sanctions against protesting teachers.

Xavier Méndez, a spokesperson for the Council of Struggle, announced plans for a meeting on March 12. The meeting will involve teachers and education workers in creating a comprehensive reform proposal for the ISSSTE Law. Additionally, three council members will travel to Mexico City to meet with Martí Batres and further the negotiation process at the national level.

The teachers' movement has gained support from health sector workers who also oppose the ISSSTE reform proposal, viewing it as detrimental to their labor rights. This expands the scope of the protest, strengthening the resistance against the proposed legislative changes. The strike will continue until federal legislators formally commit to canceling the current reform initiative.

The teachers in Quintana Roo remain steadfast in their demand for a reform that respects their rights and is built on consensus with workers.
