The Solidaridad Government, under Mayor Estefanía Mercado, is investing nearly 10 million pesos to modernize the 10th Market in Playa del Carmen. The goal is to transform it into a safe, contemporary, and respectable space for all.
During a recent inspection of the ongoing renovations, Mayor Mercado stressed that this project is more than just a market overhaul. It represents a significant investment in the heart of the community.
Mayor Mercado, along with the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, Doris Aké Sierra, expressed gratitude to all involved in the project. This includes the workers, companies contributing to the rehabilitation, and the vendors who have patiently awaited these improvements.
The Mayor acknowledged that over the years, the market has deteriorated, impacting both vendors and customers. "It was crucial to invest in its rehabilitation to ensure it is a safe, modern, and dignified place for everyone," she stated.
Mayor Mercado emphasized that this project not only enhances the municipal infrastructure but also creates better environments for vendors, thereby improving the shopping experience for customers.
She further added, "This market is an economic engine for Playa del Carmen. Its rehabilitation not only supports those who rely on it but also boosts local commerce, promotes employment, and ensures our municipality remains a growth benchmark."
The renovation project includes significant improvements to the parking area's surface, which was previously in poor condition and allowed rainwater to pool and seep into the ground floor. Additionally, ceiling and lighting fixtures will be replaced, metal columns will receive maintenance, and damaged flooring will be replaced. Other tasks include painting and various repairs.
