The Employers Confederation of the Mexican Republic (Coparmex) in Quintana Roo has expressed concerns over proposed changes to the National Workers' Housing Fund Institute (Infonavit) Law and the Federal Labor Law. They believe these reforms could disrupt the balance of decision-making power, potentially enabling the government to override the interests of workers and employers.
Angélica Frías González, president of Coparmex Quintana Roo, has called for these reforms to be approved through consensus. She believes that the voices of workers, employers, and the government should all be heard to ensure labor rights are protected.
"We call for a comprehensive dialogue, where all relevant sectors have a say, before these changes are ratified by the Chamber of Deputies," González said. She emphasized that a balanced and constructive dialogue among all three sectors is the only way to develop a model that ensures dignified housing, protects labor rights, and promotes a prosperous future for Mexican families.
González also expressed her gratitude towards President Claudia Sheinbaum for her willingness to listen to the concerns of all involved sectors and support the call for tripartite dialogue before the reform is approved.
In response to the concerns raised by businesses and unions, the Chamber of Deputies has announced that there will be no extraordinary period to discuss and vote on the changes to the Infonavit Law. The discussion will instead resume in February 2025.
