Women Take Charge in Quintana Roo’s Thriving Hotel Industry

Historically, the hotel industry has been male-dominated. However, in Quintana Roo, women are making a significant impact. They are taking on key roles and driving change in this highly competitive sector.

A study titled "The Footprint of Hospitality" reveals the pivotal role women play in this industry. Commissioned by the Association of Hotels of Cancun, Puerto Morelos, and Isla Mujeres, the study was conducted by the Anáhuac Center for Advanced Research in Sustainable Tourism (Starc). The findings show that women make up 55.6% of the workforce in temporary accommodation services in Quintana Roo. The majority of these women are employed in the municipalities of Benito Juarez, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos, which account for 55.0% of the hotel industry employees.

Cancun, Isla Mujeres, and Puerto Morelos are the primary sources of hotel employment in the state. They attract the majority of workers in this sector. Women in the hotel industry receive significant remuneration, with a base salary that surpasses the state average.

The presence of women in this industry not only diversifies the workforce but also brings unique perspectives and essential skills to a customer-focused and highly competitive environment.
