A reforestation company is expanding its job search to the municipality of José María Morelos. The company is responsible for the reforestation of over 50 hectares of land that was devastated by fire a few years ago. The job offers a weekly salary of three thousand pesos and includes meals and accommodation. The reforestation project is located near Akumal and the company is now seeking workers from the Mayan region.
According to Gabriel Téllez, a biologist with the company, finding staff in Tulum has been a challenge. The goal is to recruit local farmers who are familiar with the region's native plants to assist in the reforestation efforts.
Téllez explained, "Our mission is to reforest an area near Akumal that was destroyed by fire two or three years ago. Currently, we're working on a 58.3 hectare plot that needs to be cleaned, organized, and replanted. We've been struggling to find workers in Tulum, so we've started looking in nearby communities within the same state."
He also noted that the reforestation work is being done during the dry season, which extends the maintenance period for the new plantings. As a result, the job could last more than three and a half months.
