Renan Barrera, candidate for Governor of Yucatán, has committed to reducing electricity rates and advancing stalled clean energy projects as his first official act. His plan includes a focus on mass generation of wind and solar power. He also intends to push the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to triple their investment in hiring crews for the maintenance and expansion of the electric distribution network.
Barrera has acknowledged the frustrations of thousands of Yucatecan families who have been protesting against the CFE for weeks over continuous power outages. These families, from various commissaries, neighborhoods, and municipalities, believe that the blackouts have been deliberately caused without consideration for the citizens.
Barrera criticized the current electricity crisis affecting much of the country, attributing it to the CFE's incompetence, indifference, and irresponsibility. He emphasized the failure to ensure an efficient and effective electricity service at both local and national levels.
The candidate also highlighted the wealth of talent in Yucatán, including specialists, engineers, and electric technicians, as well as the scientific support of local public and private universities. He believes that working together with these resources, it would be possible to hire more crews for the maintenance and repair of the distribution network.
