Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has announced the reopening of the fully renovated Caste War Museum in Tihosuco. The refurbishment, which cost 5.5 million pesos, coincides with the 177th anniversary of the Mayan social war.

The renovation involved a complete overhaul of the museum's exhibits, adhering to official guidelines. The museum's interior has been completely transformed. Governor Lezama Espinosa said, "This museum stands as a living testament to a people who fought for their freedom and the preservation of their traditions. It offers a glimpse into our history and the evolution of the Mayan people.”

The museum houses hundreds of artifacts donated by the public, as well as a collection of 34 items from the National Museum of Anthropology. These pieces represent the men and women who brought about these changes, the ideals they stood for, the battles they fought, and the victories they won.

Governor Lezama Espinosa stated that the government has sought to make the museum a place that chronicles the extraordinary journey of the Mayan people, and the transformation of Quintana Roo as it approaches its 50th anniversary.

The museum is envisioned as a meeting place where everyone can identify and recognize each other. This vision was brought to life through the efforts of local children and teenagers who actively participated in the preparation of materials and the setup of the museum, alongside their parents and grandparents, becoming guardians of this cultural heritage.

Governor Lezama Espinosa added that the government's commitment to combating corruption has allowed for such investments. The museum also features a store where visitors can purchase items crafted by local artisans, transforming everyday objects into true works of art.
