Security forces across local, state, and federal levels continue their search for an escaped inmate from a prison in Cancun. Three prisoners initially escaped, but two have since been recaptured. The remaining fugitive is Oscar Adhemir Cazas Amador, also known as Irving Alejandro Trejo Macias. He escaped on the evening of Wednesday, March 12.
Cazas Amador, who is approximately 24 years old, is facing charges for violating the Federal Firearms Law and for crimes related to public health. At the time of his escape, he was wearing the standard prison uniform of beige trousers and a white t-shirt. He also has tattoos on both arms.
The escape was detected around 10:00 PM on March 12, when prison guards noticed that three inmates had managed to evade the prison's security measures and cross the perimeter fence of the Social Rehabilitation Center (Cereso). A "red code" was immediately activated, triggering a large-scale operation involving the State Police, Municipal Police, the Navy, the National Guard, and the State Attorney General's Office.
Thanks to the swift response, two of the escapees were quickly apprehended. However, Cazas Amador remains at large. The search intensified in the early hours of Thursday in Cancun's 520 region, where witnesses reported seeing the fugitive moving along the rooftops of houses to avoid capture. Security forces entered several homes with the owners' permission during the operation.
During these operations, a municipal police officer sustained a leg injury and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The search for the escaped inmate is ongoing.
The Secretary of Citizen Security, Julio Cesar Gomez Torres, has assured the public that the operation will continue until Cazas Amador is located. He has also urged anyone with information to report it to 911 or anonymously at 089.
