Miguel Cuéllar, also known as 'El Tigre', has been apprehended by federal authorities. Cuéllar is believed to be a key operative for the Sinaloa Cartel in Cancún, responsible for extortion and homicide operations. He also previously served as the General Director of the Investigative Police of the Quintana Roo Prosecutor's Office.
Cuéllar was arrested in Pachuca, Hidalgo, on Tuesday. He was subject to two arrest warrants for aggravated homicide. The operation was a joint effort involving the Army, Navy, National Guard, Office of the Attorney General of the Republic, and the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC). The Quintana Roo Office of the Attorney General of Justice provided crucial information about Cuéllar, who was on the run from the law.
Investigations revealed that Cuéllar had been using various residences in Quintana Roo, Nuevo León, and Mexico City. The authorities used technological tools and surveillance to locate him in Pachuca, Hidalgo. After confirming his identity, law enforcement officers executed the arrest warrants, informed him of the reason for his arrest, and advised him of his constitutional rights. He was then presented to a Public Ministry agent who will determine his legal status and continue the case investigations.
Cuéllar is believed to be the leader of a Sinaloa Cartel faction in the region, making him a significant contributor to violence in the area. His arrest is a major step forward in the ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal structures operating in the country, according to the SSPC.
