A gas leak incident occurred at the In Fashion Hotel, located in the bustling tourist area of Playa del Carmen, affecting six individuals, including two children. Some of the victims lost consciousness and were rushed to various city hospitals.
The hotel, situated on Fifth Avenue and 12th North Street, was the scene of a significant emergency response due to reports of a potent gas leak impacting several people.
Initial reports suggest that a gas buildup within the hotel premises led to the incident. Those affected started displaying symptoms such as dizziness, difficulty breathing, and eye irritation. Upon recognizing these symptoms, members of the Civil Protection, Firefighters, and Municipal Police evacuated the building and transported the victims to nearby hospitals for medical attention.
Specialized experts are currently on-site to ascertain the exact cause of the incident, including identifying the type of gas involved and investigating potential installation faults.
Preliminary investigations have produced two theories: one suggests a gas leak, while the other proposes the ventilation system may have contained a chemical that led to the poisoning of the six guests.
The investigation is ongoing to clarify the circumstances and implement necessary measures to prevent such incidents in the future. This event has raised concerns about the safety of services in Playa del Carmen, prompting a call for hotel owners to bolster their security measures.
