Mayor Estefanía Mercado recently inaugurated the Municipal Council of Sustainable Rural Development in the Leona Vicario hall. She pledged her administration's full support to the rural areas of Solidaridad. "The rural areas of Solidaridad will receive all the support they need to achieve their full potential," she said to the assembled council members.
Mercado shared a personal anecdote about her father, Héctor Mercado, who instilled in her a deep appreciation for rural life. He taught her that rural areas should not be poor, but rather rich and prosperous. She also mentioned her father's dedicated work for the rural sector, which she plans to continue.
As a new member of the Council, Mayor Mercado is committed to developing strategies that will benefit the rural areas and their inhabitants. "This council has been in the works for several months, even years. Since becoming Mayor, this has been and will continue to be my most important task," she stated.
In a later media interview, Mayor Mercado emphasized the wealth of opportunities in the rural sector. She noted the variety of products, such as tilapia, cattle, citrus, honey, and honey pineapple, that can be found in these areas. However, she stressed the importance of training, land certainty, and financing programs to fully exploit these opportunities.
Mayor Mercado expressed regret that Solidaridad currently lacks a slaughterhouse to meet the growing demand from local hotel chains. She assured that her administration will work towards establishing one. Among the attendees at the inauguration were Antón Bojórquez, Secretary of Economic Development and Investment Attraction, and Alejandro López, Director of Agricultural and Fisheries Development.
