The government of Solidaridad, Playa del Carmen, is all set to showcase the rich Maya culture through the celebration of Janal Pixan. The event, titled "Pixano'ob, Saacil óol" (Deceased, beings of light), will run from October 31 to November 3. The festivities will feature a diverse artistic and cultural program, with renowned artist Eugenia León making a special appearance at Plaza 28 de Julio.
The Secretary of Tourism, Estefanía Hernández, and the director of the Municipal Institute of Culture and the Arts (IMCAS), Ernesto Martínez, have announced an extensive program for the celebration. The aim is to honor indigenous cultures and bolster the cultural heritage of Mexico, Quintana Roo, and Solidaridad.
The event will include individual and group costume contests for children and youth, featuring Mexican Alebrijes-themed costumes and paired Catrinas. There will also be a competition for the best altars, with top winners receiving prizes of up to 20,000 pesos.
Eugenia León, accompanied by the Children's and Youth Symphonic Orchestra of Playa del Carmen, will perform at a concert scheduled for Saturday, November 2, starting at 10 pm. Over 350 artists will also perform at various locations, including Plaza 28 de Julio, the Chedraui Villas Del Sol parking lot, and Puerto Aventuras.
In addition, the Municipal Cemetery will be open 24 hours a day, conducting a ritual in memory of the departed. The "Pixanes Parade" will kick off the festivities, starting at Lázaro Cárdenas park and concluding at the Municipal Cemetery with prayers and a serenade on Friday, November 1. The parade will continue to Quinta Avenida the following day.

To promote local gastronomy, Eduardo Asencio, head of the DIF Solidaridad system, has announced that over 4,000 portions of the traditional dish Pib will be distributed for free. The organization of this grand event also involves the participation of the Municipal Public Services, Economic Development and Investment Attraction, and Social Justice and Citizen Participation departments.
