Solidaridad Mayor’s Father’s Passing Mourned in Playa del Carmen

Héctor Manuel Mercado Sanchez, the father of Solidaridad's Mayor Estefanía Mercado Asencio, has passed away in Playa del Carmen. His death has been met with condolences from citizens, officials, and media outlets alike. Mercado Sanchez was a respected businessman in Playa del Carmen, where he had chosen to invest and live for many years.

Mayor Mercado Asencio paid tribute to her father on social media, writing, "Safe journey back home, daddy, you are now free with mom. I will miss you every day of my life, but I know we will meet again and our hug will have no end. I love you, thank you eternally for giving me life and being the man I loved most in this world, my father." She accompanied her heartfelt message with three photos of her father.

Mara Lezama Espinosa, the Governor of Quintana Roo, expressed her sympathy to the Mercado family. In a statement, she said, "I deeply regret the passing of Mr. Héctor Mercado, father of Mayor Estefanía Mercado. I extend my most sincere condolences to his family and friends."

Numerous political figures, including Quintana Roo's Senator Eugenio Segura Vázquez, also offered their condolences. Vázquez wrote, "My deepest condolences to my friend and colleague, Mayor Estefanía Mercado and her entire family for the passing of her father, Mr. Héctor Manuel Mercado Sanchez. May they find strength and peace in these extremely difficult times. Rest in peace."

The Government of Quintana Roo also mourned the loss of the prominent Playa del Carmen businessman. In a social media post, they said, "The Government of Quintana Roo and its members deeply regret the passing of Héctor Mercado, father of Mayor Estefanía Mercado. We send our deepest condolences to relatives and loved ones."
