Estefanía Mercado, the mayor of Solidaridad, has unveiled a project to refurbish the Animal Control, Assistance and Zoonosis Center (CENCAAZ). This initiative is among the 15 priority projects set to commence during the first 100 days of her term. The primary goal is to enhance the center's facilities and create a safe, welcoming space for animals, while encouraging responsible pet adoption and promoting education on pet care within the community.

The CENCAAZ is set to provide comprehensive care to 172 pets, with 80 dogs currently available for adoption. This initiative underscores the mayor's dedication to animal welfare and fostering a harmonious community. Doris Aké Sierra, the Secretary of Infrastructure and Public Works, explained that the project encompasses the refurbishment of canine dormitories, offices, a veterinary clinic, a shelter, a surgery room, and other areas to cater to animals and pet-owning families. The project will also establish spaces for community engagement and education about respect for animal life.
