Starting in August, Southwest Airlines, a budget-friendly American airline, will discontinue its services to Cozumel airport in Quintana Roo, as well as to three other US destinations. The airline will also scale back its operations in Atlanta and Chicago.
In a statement released to shareholders, the market, and the public, Southwest Airlines announced that as of August 4, 2024, it will no longer provide flights to or from:
- George Bush Intercontinental Airport, Houston, Texas
- Bellingham International Airport, Washington
- Cozumel International Airport, Quintana Roo, Mexico
- Hancock International Airport, Syracuse, New York
Following this change, the airline will continue to service only three cities in Mexico:
- Cancun, Quintana Roo
- Los Cabos, Baja California Sur
- Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco
Additionally, starting on the same date, the airline will scale back its operations at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, and O’Hare International Airport in Chicago, Illinois. This move is part of an effort to streamline expenses and improve returns.
