The general secretary of the Municipality, José de Jesús Espinosa Payán, and the Port Captain, Marco Antonio Pescina Ávila, officially started the VII Women's Sport Fishing Tournament "La Diosa del Mar" this morning at the fishermen's dock. They sent off the 24 participating teams with a whistle.

The municipal official wished the participants good luck and highlighted that this tournament has become a tradition. It's further bolstered by events like the Craft Pavilion and the Burger Festival, which provide entertainment for the families of the participants and contribute to the local economy.

From the early hours, a festive atmosphere filled the area around the fishermen's dock. Music played and sailors assisted with the preparation of the boats participating in the tournament. The teams, which included participants from the United States, Canada, various states in the Republic, and municipalities in Quintana Roo, set off to sea in search of "billfish" (marlin, blue, white, and sailfish). These fish are caught using the "catch and release" method, which earns them a higher score.

Other species that can be presented for scoring, provided they weigh more than 10 pounds, include wahoo, sierra, dorado, tuna, bonito or barrilete, and barracuda. The Organizing Committee, led by Karla Luna Rodríguez, announced that the weigh-in will open at 2:30 pm and the awards ceremony will take place at 5 pm.
