The Attorney General's Office of Quintana Roo has announced the arrest of a man suspected of theft and kidnapping in Cancun. The individual, known as Arturo "N", was apprehended in Mexico City. The successful capture was made possible through a joint effort involving the Secretary of the Navy, the National Anti-kidnapping Coordination (Conase), and Mexico City's Attorney General's Office. Arturo "N" is believed to be the leader of a criminal gang in Cancun and was a high-priority target on the State's Criminal Atlas. After his arrest, he was transferred to Cancun following the execution of an arrest warrant by the Special Prosecutor's Office in Combat Against Kidnapping and Extortion crimes.
Investigations have shown that Arturo "N" arrived in Cancun from the United States on December 22, 2024. He then traveled to the state of Querétaro, from where he flew to Panama on January 5 of the following year. From Panama, he traveled to the Bahamas and then to Mexico City, where he was arrested upon arrival. He was then handed over to the agents of Quintana Roo's Attorney General's Office and transferred to Cancun. After due diligence, he was placed in Benito Juarez's Social Rehabilitation Centre, where he remains available to the authorities. His legal status will be determined within the constitutionally set timeframe.
In related news, in October 2024, José Adolfo "N", a member of the same criminal group, was arrested for his suspected involvement in kidnapping crimes in Benito Juarez. He was ordered to remain in preventative detention for two years or for the duration of the trial.
In a separate incident, Sergio Fernando "N" was arrested on Coahuila Street in the Alfredo V. Bonfil delegation. He was observed handing over small bags, suspected to contain marijuana, to another individual. Preliminary investigations suggest that he is linked to a criminal group known for violence in Benito Juarez and involvement in drug sales. He is also suspected of involvement in multiple crimes, including kidnapping and homicide. Both the seized items and Sergio Fernando "N" have been handed over to the Public Prosecutor, attached to the Special Prosecutor's Office in Combatting Drug Trafficking Crimes. His legal status will also be determined within the constitutionally set timeframe.
