“Sustainable Success: Mayan Communities Thrive with Rainwater Revolution”

Residents of the Mayan communities of Noh-Bec and Sacbecán, located in the municipality of Tzucacab, have enhanced their lifestyle and agricultural methods by installing 20 rainwater collection systems. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the State Government and the Japanese Government.

Diana Pérez Jaumá, the head of the Ministry of Sustainable Development (SDS), and Tsukasa Hirota, the minister responsible for business at the Japanese Embassy in Mexico, oversaw the outcomes of this partnership. The Yucatán Government and the Japanese Embassy in Mexico, through their Community Projects of Human Security "APC" program, contributed 1.5 million pesos to this project.

These rainwater collection systems will increase water availability for farming, thereby improving the livelihoods of local families.

The Japanese Government has maintained a robust cooperative relationship with the State of Yucatán over the years, offering support in various development sectors. This donation strengthens the Yucatán Government's commitment to the comprehensive development of all Yucatec people, particularly those in vulnerable situations. The government works closely with dedicated international partners like the Japanese Government.

In line with strategies to reduce poverty in Yucatán, the current administration has implemented about 30 thousand housing actions across the state. These actions include the construction of floors, bathrooms, ecological kitchens, and additional rooms.
